BMS Group Continues to Support Customers as Veeder-Root Mechanical Computers and Related Components Reach End of Era.
Veeder-Root has officially announced that, effective 1 January 2026, Mechanical Computer parts, including Calculators, Coupling Resets, Switch Pump Motors, and additional components, will reach their End of Life (EOL).
Veeder-Root views this EOL process as a natural progression driven by global technological innovation. As the long-standing world leader in fuelling systems technology, the company continues to invest heavily in advanced electronic solutions.
Veeder-Root’s history of mechanical counting goes back to 1895, when Curtis Veeder invented the Cyclometer to record miles travelled on a bicycle. The Root and Veeder companies merged in 1928, creating Veeder-Root, which became a major manufacturer of counting and computing devices for items such as voting machines, cash registers, and gasoline dispensers. By 1976, the company had produced its one millionth VR-101 gas pump computer.
One of Veeder-Root’s most significant contributions to the industry was the VR10 range of computers, developed with the expertise of BMS Group founders Brian Bigwood and John Izzard, who played a crucial role in tailoring the system for the European market.
